son (Gar), whose mother died fairly soon after he was born. difficult relationship with distant, general store-preoccupied father. father was 42, mother was 19. mother's sister in US, who's trying to get him out there as she never had kids, and all the other sisters have died without children. Gar's girl at one point - takes up with another.
Gar's alter ego/conscious was played by someone - interesting the dynamic. plays with time, memories.
